Cellular IoT services such as LTE Cat M, NB-IoT have different coverage than regular cellular services. To ensure stable and reliable cellular IoT network services, it is important to perform radio wave measurement at the installation sites. monoZ built a Field Test device which is used by network service operators to check communication quality using the required technology at the installation location, thereby making it possible to provide stable IoT services.
Challenges
It was important to obtain signal strength and quality information for multiple test cases covering both Cat-M and NB-IoT networks.
The test cases to cover data delivery tests thereby requiring knowledge on LPWA protocols such as MQTT, LwM2M, etc.
The system and testing should be simple to be executed by installation staff who don’t have in-depth knowledge on protocols and cellular networks.
Solution
Connectivity test: Using Field test device, the network connectivity can be checked by performing a series of connection tests using different IoT protocols at regular intervals.
Web UI: Measurement results can be easily viewed from a smartphone, tablet, or PC browser by connecting to the field test device through its Wi-Fi.
Simple Judgement functions: Simple operations and user-friendly result display such as 〇 △ × along the threshold makes it possible for even the installation staff who is not familiar with mobile technologies to easily check and judge the radio wave quality at the installation site.
